MANILA, Philippines – Google is offering eligible college and university students in the Philippines one year of Google AI Plus for free, giving them access to its premium Gemini tools and 400 GB of cloud storage. The offer, announced in the Philippines on September 4, is available to eligible students until December 31, 2026, as part of a wider rollout of free Google AI plans for college students around the world. Google AI Plus includes access to the Gemini Omni video generation model, “Study Notebooks,” interactive visualizations, voice-based Gemini Live, and two times higher usage limits in Gemini compared with the free tier. One of the plan’s main student-focused features is Study Notebooks, which allows users to upload class materials such as lecture notes, syllabi, slide decks, and reading packets. Gemini can use these materials to create a step-by-step study plan tailored to a student’s coursework. It can also generate diagnostic and practice quizzes, create bite-sized lessons, identify knowledge gaps, and track a student’s progress through a dashboard. With the student’s permission, Gemini can identify important dates in an uploaded syllabus, such as examinations and assignment deadlines, and add them directly to Google Calendar. Students can also use interactive visualizations, which allow Gemini to generate visual and interactive explanations of certain topics, including 3D models and simulations. Gemini Live, meanwhile, allows students to hold voice conversations with the AI assistant and discuss their study materials. Google is also bringing its Deep Research feature to Gemini Live, allowing users to launch more comprehensive research reports and later discuss the results through voice. The subscription comes with 400 GB of cloud storage shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. How to claim the free plan Students can claim the offer through Google’s student hub on a web browser or through the Gemini app. Users must sign in with a Google account and verify that they are actively enrolled in an eligible college or university in the Philippines. On the student hub, Google’s verification service asks the user to select their college or university from a list, and provide their name and birthday. A valid payment method is also required to activate the subscription. Google says students will not be charged during the 12-month promotional period and can cancel the subscription at any time. If the user doesn’t cancel after the promotional period, they will be charged the regular P285 monthly fee for the AI Plus plan. – Rappler.com How does this make you feel?
